What is the current status of high-energy astrophysics in France and what are the hot scientific questions and experiments the community will be working on in the future? The state-of-the-art astrophysics as well as different perspectives on future research were presented and discussed during the 3-day workshop organized by the “Programme National Hautes Énergies” (PNHE)Continue…

What is the nature of dark matter and how to search for it underground, on the Earth’s surface and in space? Contributions to answering these questions where discussed by more than 540 physicists from the 28th of August to the 1st of September 2023 in Vienna at the conference “Topics in Astroparticle and Underground Physics”Continue…

The origin of cosmic rays remains a mystery. Through multi-wavelength and multi-messenger studies, we can identify them. Dimitis presented a recent work on the search of Galactic cosmic rays and how black-hole X-ray binaries may contribute to the observed spectrum here on Earth. The presentation was part of the biannual conference of the Hellenic AstronomicalContinue…

This week has been very successful for the group! First, on Monday, Joanna successfully defended her thesis “Solving astrophysical mysteries with compact object”. You may call her now Dr. Berteaud! The celebrating spirit kept on Tuesday when Francesca defended her habilitation thesis “The Galactic centre excess; A journey from dark matter to astrophysics”. You mayContinue…

The Galactic Center Excess of γ-rays has puzzled scientists for over a decade. One promising avenue of investigation is to explore the radio and X-ray data to look for a population of millisecond pulsars, the putative origin of this excess. Joanna recently presented our research on this topic at the Galactic Center Workshop in Granada.Continue…

Francesca presented the latest results on probing dark matter with INTEGRAL/SPI at the HEP/Astro Results Forum. Browse through the slides if you are eager to know more about how to set competitive constraints on dark matter particle and non-particle candidates with a 20-year-old gamma-ray telescope.

Pasquale Dario Serpico, a theoretical physicist at the Laboratory of Theoretical Physics (LAPTh) , at the University of Savoie Mont Blanc and the CNRS, was awarded the Friedel-Volterra Prize 2022 by the French Physical Society (SFP) jointly with the Italian Physical Society (SIF). This prize honors his scientific activities in cosmology and high-energy astroparticle physics,Continue…

Research involving LAPTh astroparticle group members makes the INTEGRAL picture of the month! A new analysis of the ESA INTEGRAL/SPI satellite data (“Diffuse Galactic emission spectrum between 0.5 and 8.0 MeV”) of LAPTh members (Joanna Berteaud, Francesca Calore, Joaquim Iguaz and Pasquale Serpico) with researchers of the Max-Planck-Institute for extraterrestrial Physics and Univ. of WürzburgContinue…
